Our story
ARMIN Charitable NGO was founded in 2018. The inspiration came from American-Armenian plastic surgeon, renowned Professor Arthur Salibian, who introduced the latest methods of breast reconstruction in the Republic of Armenia for over ten years.
This type of surgery widely practiced in the United States was completely new to Armenia back in 2013, when Mr. Salibian came to Armenia to share his experience on breast cancer recuperation and surgery. Salibian has assembled a group of doctors in Armenia with whom he has shared his experience and performed this type of surgery with plastic surgeons at various medical centers in Armenia. Breast implant placement during cancer surgery was first performed in the United States and Salibian was one of the first physicians to make this innovation in the United States.
The peculiarity of this surgery is that two surgeons - an oncologist and a plastic surgeon work simultaneously during surgery to obtain the desired outcome for women both from aesthetic and oncological points of view.
"The important thing here is the joint work of the oncologist and the surgeon. The surgery consists of two parts, first the actual surgery, the removal of the tumor, then the operation of a plastic surgeon and the implant being inserted to preserve the appearance, which has a psychologically positive effect on the woman,” says Salibian.
One of the goals of the NGO is also to involve plastic surgeons in such surgeries, to organize and support the process of receiving government support for breast surgery.
The silicones and expanders needed for surgery (which is necessary to maintain the appearance of the skin after breast cancer removal and implantation) are free of charge on a charitable basis. They have been provided to patients many times by Salibian, and currently this work is being organized by the NGO based by Salibian, whose members are ready to hear and help, make donations according to social security criteria, provide implants and expanders.
Salibian has been visiting Armenia twice a year since 2014 and sharing his experience with both plastic surgeons and surgeons performing breast reconstruction surgeries. Salibian shares his professional experience with Armenian doctors.
Dr. Salibian has also set up a charitable foundation in the United States to support the development of this field of oncology in Armenia.
He held a charity event in the United States and with the proceeds purchased implants which has been and are used by the surgeons.
